Annual SASS Territorial Governor Conference – By Chico
Cheech
To
keep the club informed on the goings-on at SASS, I accepted, on a temporary
basis, the position of the Gila Rangers Territorial Governor in October. It was
too late for me to plan on attending the TG conference in December, but to keep
our voice in the hall, I granted our proxy to Mor-or-Less of the Rio Vaqueros
and discussed our views on some of the general issues before he attended the
conference.
The
following are the excerpts for this recent gathering…
TG
Conference / General:
-
Pot matches that award monies as prizes have been outlawed at SASS State
Championships and above. SASS is encouraging Black Powder events at large shoots
and special black powder championships and categories.
-
A new ‘Club Manual’ will be drafted and made available on-line for clubs to
use as a guideline on general rules and operation. It will include the TG role
in the club and expectations, including event participation requirements.
-
New ‘B’ Western categories will be suggested and introduced to the TG’s.
-
Clubs are encouraged to offer awards in all approved SASS shooting categories,
and to actively accommodate handicapped shooters in their events.
- SASS suggested that all State and Regional matches allow Juniors and Buckaroos to shoot for free. (It should be noted that they have no Buckaroo at EOT, and are charging Juniors $50.)
Agenda
Items:
-
Calibration of Pistol Knock-down Targets – Changing from 38 to 32 cal factory
specifications. - Motion Failed due to conflicting 32 caliber specifications.
-
Elimination of Score enhancing items such as Free Miss (bang no clang) tickets
at State matches and above due to general abuse of the feature. - Motion Passed.
-
Rename and expand the Classic Cowboy category. Require that 5 listed items must
be worn and set rules for appropriately wearing the items. - Motion to expand or
change the name Failed. - Motions to increase the required items from 3 to 5,
and to draw-up rules for appropriately wear Passed.
-
Cocking a firearm at the incorrect time or place. Shooter now must safely
discharge the weapon and take a procedural and a miss. The TG’s would not
allow any compromise in the safely discharge issue, but would allow the shooter
to load an extra cartridge on the clock when they reached the correct shooting
position. Procedural without the required miss. - Motion Passed
