Mud Springs Plinkers
aka Rio Vaqueros March 2005 Newsletter
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Howdy!
Thanks Slippery Steve for joining our club. For those who don't know, Slippery
Steve is from the Magdalena Traildrivers. Thanks also Bill Weddle, aka Harve
Curry, for renewing your membership. A Thank You also goes to our out-of-town
members and locals for helping with set-up and tear-down of the stages. Gabby-We
have enjoyed shooting with you. Thanks for your help. Dusty Star has volunteered
to help me put on the man-on-man side match at the state shoot in Silver City.
Proceeds will be split and divided to participating clubs.
Step & 1/2 had furnished printed Lucky 13 Pages of scenarios to help us
create fun and different stages. Thanks Step & 1/2.
I got a phone call last night from Cindy Pollock, aka Hester Lee, of the Picacho
Gun Club. She said Julian Harper, aka Double Dipper, thought he had the flu.
Turns out the doctor diagnosed him with liver cancer. Our heartfelt wishes and
prayers go out to him and his family. (See eulogy on Julian from Cindy
Pollock of Picacho Gun Club on page 3)

SUNDAY's MATCH
This
month's match was set up the be a warm-up to prepare for the State Match
Gathering of the Posses at Casa Grande, Arizona. Four stages, which were more
intricate than our average scenario, had good excuses for our misses. The match
was fast and furious. I noticed a lot of the shootists reading the match
scenarios before going to the firing line. There were only two clean matches for
the day-Gabby and Doc Baker-Congratulations! I thought I was going to be among
this prestigious group, but alas, I missed the last shot of the match-a shotgun
flyer, thus falling away with the rest of the tales of woe for the day. The
shootist with the best score was our peerless Territorial Governor More or Les.
The weather was perfect and after the match, most of the posse gathered at La
Cocina for a HOT lunch. Next month Salty will be match director while some of us
will be shooting at NM State Match-Victorio's Run-in Silver City.
Keep shooting and practice gun control. Hit what you are shooting at. s/Dusty
Star
Minutes of Meeting of February 22 :
Minutes
and Treasurer's Reports were read and approved.15 shooters were at the match.
One stand is missing which prompted the motion to change the locker combination.
Gabby and More or Les followed Dusty Star's suggestion and motioned that drinks
be supplied at the range: cold drinks in the summer and hot drinks in the
winter, plus some form of candy bars, all to be paid on the honor system. Jim
Anton Dusty Star) will supply the candy and drinks, to begin in May.
T-or-C Recreation Director Leon Gorrell rescinded his parking mandate and will
allow parking on the west side of the arroyo, outside the berm area for those
who cannot cross the berm area on foot.
Salty will be running the April match while J W Brockey, Anna Paulova and Dusty
Star attend the State Shoot - Victorio's Run and put on the side match Friday.
4-Square brought up the clay pidgeons and it was decided to return to the tin

For those who knew him, Julian Harper, aka Double Dipper, passed away last
Saturday, March 26 from liver cancer.
Julian Harper (68) died Saturday, at the Hospice of Northwest in Perrsburg,
Ohio. He had left in February to take care of his mother
who had fallen and broken her collar bone and arm. While there Julian was
diagnosed with liver cancer and survived for two weeks.

*Cowboy Action Shoot in May (Memorial Day Weekend) will be put on by Doc Baker
and Fast Hammer. We had fourteen shooters (half were local). The rest came from
Silver City, Deming and Alamogordo, despite the weather, just to support our
shoot. This was also the weekend for the Border Shootout at Casa Grande,
Arizona. This shoot was hard for all of us. Julian was not there to lead the
way. Is Real Precious and the other shooters helped us run the shoot and we made
it though... Good people lending a hand demonstrating the true spirit of Cowboy
Action Shooting.

THE DARWIN AWARDS FOR 2005 NOW !!
The following mind-boggling attempt at a crime spree in Washington USA appeared
to be the robber's first (and last), due to his lack of a previous record of
violence, and his terminally stupid choices:
His target was H&J Leather & Firearms. A gun shop specializing in
handguns. The shop was full of customers - firearms customers. To enter the
shop, the robber had to step around a marked police patrol car parked at the
front door. A uniformed officer was standing at the counter, having coffee
before work. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold up,
and fired a few wild shots from a .22 target pistol. The officer and a clerk
promptly returned fire, the police officer with a 9mm Glock 17, the clerk with a
.50 Desert Eagle, assisted by several customers who also drew their guns, several
of whom also fired. The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics.
Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The
subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from
7 different weapons. No one else was hurt in the exchange of fire
Here we are at the beginning of March and we already may have the 2005 winner of
the Darwin Award.
This guy is going to be hard to beat.
